From the article: "FARMINGTON - Theodora J. Kalikow, University of Maine at Farmington president, has joined 300 of her peers recently in signing the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, which pledges to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, invest in environmentally sustainable practices, and to promote the necessary research and educational efforts to fight global warming."

I am concerned with the viability of the plan mentioned in this article. Though it is extremely flexible, I wonder how successful these colleges will be in implementing it fully. My school, Grinnell College, considered this proposal but is instead opting out to develop its own plan for reducing carbon output on campus. The college is losing the leadership points, but sees it as more practical. Also, the college is worried that enlisting in the President's Climate Commitment would necessitate buying carbon offsets (e.g. paying for trees to be planted in the Amazon), which has been likened to the Church's selling of indulgences before Martin Luther and the Reformation. Does anyone go to a school that has signed the Commitment? What are others' views on how well it is being implemented.
